An
Ontario Winter Adventure Dream List
Satisfy your outdoor adventure needs this season with Ontario's
best winter experiences.
Toronto, ON (PRWEB) December 24, 2007 -- There is no doubt that
winter has arrived in full force in Ontario. Tourism suppliers are
ecstatic about the early, and sometimes unrelenting, snow that has
been falling. With all the snow, conditions are prime to enjoy a
plethora of winter adventures in Ontario this season. The trails
are groomed, the slopes open and the sled dogs are hitched up and
ready run. Here is just a small sample of some of the experiences
to be had in Ontario's winter playground.
Winter Snowshoeing Ecotours at the Wye Marsh - With winter comes
a new set of rules for animal survival and new ways to experience
the excitement of nature. Enjoy a 3 to 4 KM snowshoe trek into the
world of woodland and wetland research. One of the Wye Marsh's qualified
and knowledgeable staff will lead participants deep into the wooded
3600 acre Wye Marsh. Cost: $50.00 per person, every Saturday &
Sunday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm (running from December 22nd to Beginning
of March)
Agawa Canyon Snow Train - Take a train into the gorgeous northern
Ontario landscape to experience a side of winter only a few witness
each year. This winter experience begins in downtown Sault Ste.
Marie where passengers will board the newly renovated cars of the
Algoma Central Railway's Snow Train. Marvel at the pristine winter
landscape as the train winds its way passed lakes and vistas on
its way to the Agawa Canyon. Once at the canyon disembark and take
a hike up the stairs to the top of the canyon wall. The reward will
be an unobstructed view of the vast wilderness. The Snow Train package
costs $169 per person and includes one Snow Train admission, 2 nights
accommodations and 2 continental breakfasts.
Introduction to Ice Climbing - Imagine climbing the Khumba Icefall
on Mount Everest? Luckily, it's not necessary to go to Nepal for
some excellent ice climbing. Only an hour from Toronto, is some
of the most astounding ice in southern Ontario. Hack up an icefall
with ice axes and dig crampons into the blue ice. On this course
participants will learn to tie into the rope, belay, proper uses
of crampons and ice axes, and ice climbing technique. No experience
is necessary for this beginner program. The cost is $160 per person.
Algonquin Log Cabin Winter Adventure - Algonquin Park's northwest
corner is home to world-class dog sledding and snowmobiling! Indeed
South River, Ontario hosts one of the largest concentrations of
commercial dogsled operators in Canada. This is authentic dog sledding.
One-hour lesson, hooking up sleds, learning how to harness and real
mush driving a team. In terms of Snowmobiling, the Ontario Federation
Snowmobile trails are located just west of the Park boundary and
offer groomed routes that traverse lakes and run through unspoiled
winter wonderland. Relax at night in a private chalet suite. This
package is ideal for couples or small groups of friends looking
for authentic adventure. Three nights accommodation (one night hotel,
2 nights private chalet suite), guided dog sledding with packed
lunch, snowmobiling (1 sled per couple), torch lit skating, post
snowmobile snack and hot drink, use of snowshoes. Cost is $725 per
