During Tourism Week 2008
Canadian summer long weekend are arranged around
statutory holidays, most of which fall on a Monday. See dates, activities,
events, associated with the Canadian long weekends such as Canada
Day, Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Weekend, Christmas

The Tourism
Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) has created the theme
"Potential Worth Exploring”. In support of the week,
Ontario residents are encouraged to get out during tourism week
and explore the many resort and travel destinations, events, festivals
and day trips. Links to events, festivals and getaway packages in
Canadian provinces.

• As part of its national launch for Tourism
Week celebrations, TIAC, in partnership with Deloitte,
we will be announcing the 2008 Canadian Tourism Hall of Fame inductees,
publishing a special National
Report on Tourism in The Globe and Mail on June 3, meeting with
elected officials and arranging for Parliamentarians to speak about
the impact and value of the tourism industry in the House of Commons
and Senate.

- Travel Manitoba is kicking off Tourism Week
celebrations by showcasing some of the province's best authors
and activities Sunday, June 3, 2007, at the Explore Manitoba Centre
in the Johnson Terminal at The Forks, Winnipeg's most historic
site. Top travel authors, including; Bartley Kives, Bill Stilwell,
Kelsey Eliasson and the Prairie Pathfinders will be on hand to
share their secrets on traveling in Manitoba. Visitors will also
have the opportunity to take a free journey to the past aboard
a Voyageur canoe with adventure outfitters Northern Soul. Parks
Canada guides will take visitors on a free tour of The Forks.

- TIA Yukon and Yukon Tourism & Culture , in partnership
with 15 generous Yukon tourism businesses, organized a radio giveaway
for locals. TIA Yukon's approached it's members for help, and
the business operators responded with enthusiasm to donate many
amazing trips, tour packages, weekend getaways, and gift certificates.
Newspaper advertisements, radio spots and posters will used in
advance of Tourism Week to spread the word to Yukoners, and from
June 4-9, a local radio station will be holding a contest to give
away the many prizes received from Yukon tourism operators. This
is an excellent opportunity for everyone in the Yukon to have
a chance to experience the wonders in their own backyard to help
them realize the how, why, and what of tourism - our "Passport

- With the Saskatchewan legislature officially proclaiming Tourism
Week, the whole province is getting behind celebrations. Tourism
Saskatchewan will launch the fifth annual Snap It! The
Great Saskatchewan Photo Contest. A four-page insert containing
information about the industry, Tourism Saskatchewan’s new
CEO and an on-line tourism awareness week contest. Readers will
be encouraged to visit www.sktourismweek.com
to learn more about the industry and to enter to win Saskatchewan
vacation prize packages. The insert and online contest are supported
with banner ads on the Star Phoenix and Leader Post websites and
commercials on Global and CTV stations around the province. In
Regina and Saskatoon, Professional Recognition Dinners will recognize
properties with a minimum of 60% staff certified through national
standards and certification, and Service Best programs. Communities
throughout Saskatchewan will be celebrating with public BBQs,
garden socials, festivals and visitor centre open houses.
- The Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia
has partnered with Global TV on a “Where
in Nova Scotia is Cindy Day? ” segment that gives viewers
the opportunity to win tourism packages around Nova Scotia. Each
day during Tourism Week – Tourism is Everybody’s Business!
Global TV will release a piece of a picture of one of Nova Scotia’s
landmark sites. The viewer must guess what the site is and the
people with the correct answer will be submitted to win one of
three great prizes.
According to TIAC
, tourism keeps 1.66 million Canadians working, supports economic
and community development, and generates over $19.7 billion in tax
revenues for all levels of government-money that pays for a range
of important programs like health care and education.
