Best of Quebec and Ontario Fall Colours-Ottawa Valley

Combine the best of Ontario and Quebec fall colours and foliage with a trip north from Ottawa to North Bay. This road trip along Highway 17 the Trans Canada will provide great views accross the river to Quebec, as well as provide great views of the hardwood forests on the Ontario side. Areas to visit include Algonquin Park with two side trips, one to the Barron River Canyon near Petawawa, and one to the Brent Crater near Deux Riviers. A jog into the town of Mattawa is worth the view of the converging Mattawa and Ottawa Rivers. On a recent trip along the Highway 17 north east portion of Ontario's Trans Canada Highway we could see the potential of some great fall colours appearing in the coming weeks. Hints of colours appeared along the road corridors and were showing along the canopy's in higher elevations. The Canadian Ecology Centre is located in Champlain Provincial Park just north of Mattawa. Mattawa presents an interesting convergence of the both English and French cultures as one of the historic waterways used in the early exploration of Canada. A translation of Mattawa means "two rivers meeting". A road trip along this section of the Trans Canada is rich in history of the loggers and trappers and early explorers in Canada. Hotel Accommodation is available in Pembroke , Petawawa, and North Bay

Fall Colour Changes Update Northern Ontario Sept 16, 2007

As of Sept. 16, 2007 as reported by the Ministry of Tourism. There is just a 5 to 10% colour change on Manitoulin Island and across the north east to the Temagami region. The North Bay area is now reporting a 15 to 20% colour change in the city and to the north, along highway 11. The Dream Catcher Express day trip train excursions from North Bay to Temagami and return take place September 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 28th, 29th and 30th. The Sudbury region is reporting just a 5% colour change however Killarney Provincial Park, along the shore of Georgian Bay, reports the colour has advanced to 15 to 20% change, with the Granite Ridge Trail, in the park, offering some nice fall colour viewing. Algonquin Provincial Park is an extremely popular fall colour destination. The colour is advancing in the park to a 20 to 30% change. There are some areas of burgundy and bright red along Highway 60. The Highway 60 corridor, through the park offers an outstanding fall colour drive. An ideal viewing location, during the fall colour period in Algonquin Park, is the view from the observation deck at the world class visitor centre. Ragged Falls, just off highway 60 outside the west gate of the park, also offers an ideal viewing location.

Algonquin Area Barron River Canyon-Fall Colours 2007

The Barron River Canyon on the East Side of Algonquin Park is truly one of Canada's spectacular views, and canoe and color routes in the fall. One acesses this area via The Trans Canada Highway 17 north west of Ottawa just before the town of Petawawa between Pembroke and Petawawa. Although it is a bit early for the fall colours in this area, green and blue are the colors of the moment (photo September 14, 2007). There are hints of patches throughout the pines which dominate the flora of this area of Algonquin. Fall Colours in Canada
