Where to find Canadian Art--More than 10 Suggested Locations

As reported by the Toronto Sun, the winter 2007-2008 issue of Canadian Geographic asked the curator of the McMichael Canadian Art Collection Gallery to identify 10 top locations for Canadian Art. As is always the case when you pick 10 there are another 10 that are missed. Canadian art is not just located between four walls. We think the outdoor artist murals created in Chemainus on Vancouver Island, and Midland, Ontario would fit into this category. The murals of Midland are one of Ontario's largest and most beautiful outdoor galleries. Inspired by the murals of Chemainius, B.C. the Midland mural program was initiated in 1990 by the merchants of the Downtown Midland Business Improvement Association.

As a starting place in your travels to Canada for visitors from outside Canada, or for Canadians planing a cross Canada trip we highly recommend the McMichael as a starting point to help establish your bearings and plan your "artistic tour of Canada".

The top ten identified were:

The Confederation Art Gallery-Charlottetown

Museum of Anthropology Vancouver

Vancouver Art Gallery Vancouver

McMichael Canadian Art Collection Kleinburg

Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto

National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa

Musee National Des Beaux-arts du Quebec, Quebec City

Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Halifax
