Best of Quebec and Ontario Fall Colours-Ottawa Valley

Combine the best of Ontario and Quebec fall colours and foliage with a trip north from Ottawa to North Bay. This road trip along Highway 17 the Trans Canada will provide great views accross the river to Quebec, as well as provide great views of the hardwood forests on the Ontario side. Areas to visit include Algonquin Park with two side trips, one to the Barron River Canyon near Petawawa, and one to the Brent Crater near Deux Riviers. A jog into the town of Mattawa is worth the view of the converging Mattawa and Ottawa Rivers. On a recent trip along the Highway 17 north east portion of Ontario's Trans Canada Highway we could see the potential of some great fall colours appearing in the coming weeks. Hints of colours appeared along the road corridors and were showing along the canopy's in higher elevations. The Canadian Ecology Centre is located in Champlain Provincial Park just north of Mattawa. Mattawa presents an interesting convergence of the both English and French cultures as one of the historic waterways used in the early exploration of Canada. A translation of Mattawa means "two rivers meeting". A road trip along this section of the Trans Canada is rich in history of the loggers and trappers and early explorers in Canada. Hotel Accommodation is available in Pembroke , Petawawa, and North Bay
