Go North To Ontario--Where can North Be?

Where is North in Canada?

For most American visitors, north to Canada can mean anything from Niagara Falls to the Arctic. A recent story in the Pittsburg Post Gazette by Roger Peterson leads with "Go north for summer fun of arts and the entertaining city of Toronto", and gives this Canadian pause as to what North means for those living in Southwestern Ontario. Do they feel they are going North to Toronto as well? The CBC is trying to pick Canada's Seven Wonders, and have provided a list of the top 50 which will be reduced to 7. It is interesting that other than Vimmy Ridge in France, Niagara Falls, and the CN Tower, Mums House in Scarborough, and the canoe, the other 45 are all north of Toronto in Canada. My guess those Southwestern Ontario visitors are going "up to Toronto", not thinking about what is in fact north.
